Submitting an appeal - Stage One
How to submit a Stage One appeal.
Following the publication of results, from an exam board, or outcome from an Assessment Offence Panel, you may decide to submit an Academic Appeal in line with the Academic Appeals Policy (PDF). You have ten working days from the notification of outcome or results in which to submit the appeal and any supporting evidence. Follow the steps below to submit a Stage One appeal.
How to submit a Stage One appeal
-
Step 1
You are advised to read the guidance below thoroughly before submitting an appeal.
-
Step 2
It is important to submit documentary evidence to support an appeal if available, for example copies of emails, or computer screenshots. Submit your evidence along with a completed appeals form (Word) and within the ten day deadline.
For detailed guidance regarding the types of evidence you could obtain to support your appeal, please see case studies and evidence.
We would prefer evidence to be sent electronically, but if this is not possible, you need to notify us that you are sending something by post.
If you are sending evidence by post, it should be sent to the below address in an envelope marked 'Application for appeal'. Please include your name, student number and, if you have received it, your appeal reference number.
Postal address for evidence:
Student Casework Team
Student and Academic Services
Frenchay Campus
Coldharbour Lane

Step 3
Submit your evidence along with a completed appeals form (Word) by email to studentcasework@uwe.ac.uk.
It is important to provide all relevant information in a clear and chronological order. You may wish to contact The Students' Union at UWE Advice Centre for support and guidance prior to submitting an appeal.
If you have any questions, please contact the Student Casework team as soon as possible at studentcasework@uwe.ac.uk. Similarly, if you require information in an alternative format please contact us.
-
Step 4
Once the appeal has been submitted, you will receive an email acknowledgement with a copy of the form attached. You will also receive a separate email acknowledgement in relation to any evidence submitted. If this is not received, please contact the Student Casework team at studentcasework@uwe.ac.uk.
The appeal will be considered by a member of the Student Casework team. The process could take up to eight weeks as other services and/or departments may need to be contacted. You should check your emails on a regular basis during this time.
-
Step 5
Whilst awaiting the outcome of the appeal, you are expected to prepare for and undertake any resit assessments for modules in which you have been referred.
-
Step 6
The Student Casework team will determine whether there are valid grounds for appeal and will email the outcome to you. The email will include information regarding the 'next steps' to take if you remain dissatisfied. The email concludes the end of the appeal process at Stage One.
-
Step 7
If you feel the matter has not been resolved to your satisfaction, you may wish to make a Stage Two appeal.
