About us
Join our Production and Technical Team if you are interested in:
- gaining practical knowledge about the technical side of performing arts
- learning how sound and lighting systems work for gigs, events and shows
- building stages and sets
- finding out what happens backstage
- developing sound engineering skills.
Workshops
Wednesday 10:30 to 16:30, Centre for Music workshop
Every Wednesday afternoon, come along to our Centre for Music workshop, where you can get involved in building sets and using lighting rigs.
The Production and Technical Team provide support to Centre for Music events throughout the year. In 2019 the team designed and built the Centre for Music Jazz club from scratch.
There will be opportunities to get backstage at events in some of Bristol’s most iconic venues, such as the Bristol Beacon, the Old Vic and the Bristol Hippodrome.
It’s a great way to learn new skills and get involved with the performing arts industry, from theatre productions to live concerts.
Workshops take place on Wednesdays in the Centre for Music workshop, near the Community Garden.
Sound engineering
If being a sound engineer for live music events is more your thing, there are opportunities to train alongside experienced sound engineers and learn the ropes at live events at venues on campus and in the city.

To join any of our Centre for Music groups, you firstly need to become a member. Membership is free for students. Once you are a member you can sign up for any of our groups and activities.

The Centre for Music offers a range of music lessons, mini music courses and masterclasses to our UWE Bristol student and staff members that can be booked with our team of professional musicians.

In order to join any of our groups, access our rehearsal rooms, or come to any sessions, UWE Bristol staff and students just need to sign up to become a member of the Centre for Music.
