Computing and Creative Technologies student volunteering
Students in the School of Computing and Creative Technologies (formerly known as the Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies) get many benefits from community volunteering on topics related to their subject discipline.
Extra-curricular volunteering is fantastic for developing students’ employability and life skills, but co-curricular volunteering is arguably even better. Students interested in making a difference in community settings can enhance their studies by linking volunteering to their degree.
Technical confidence and soft skills can boost students’ CVs through volunteering opportunities in IT, computer science, digital media, music technology or other creative technologies.
Examples of community volunteering projects
Music Technology and Audio
Students practice the art of sound recording, music production, composition and performance in community and civic venues in and around Bristol.
Township IT
We have extended established educational development work in a South African township to include computer networking and IT literacy activities. This is an initiative for and with Project Zulu running for the second time in 2017. For more information visit Township Technology.
Code Clubs
Students run after-school Code Clubs in local primary schools, teaching kids how to program and show them how to make computer games, animations and web sites, as part of the UWE Bristol Schools Volunteering programme.
Other opportunities
We are keen to respond where possible to emerging needs and opportunities, so students and potential partners alike are invited to contact us to discuss additional ideas. See also opportunities by sector on the student volunteering pages.
