Frenchay Campus major disruptive works
Every year, the University takes advantage of the quieter summer months to carry out more disruptive works which cannot be done during term time. This summer there will be disruptive works that will affect getting around Frenchay Campus from June to August.
During this time, journeys may take longer and you should therefore familiarise yourself with changes to accessible routes, car parks and road closures and get support if you need it.
Local signage will show diversions and during the busiest times there will be stewards on campus to help direct staff and students.
There are no major disruptive works planned at Glenside or Bower Ashton Campuses over the summer.
When and where to expect disruptions

Road and car park closures
During the summer works, various roads and car parks will be closed and bus routes diverted:
- Road closed to staff and student vehicles from B Block bridge past S Block.
- Road closed to all vehicles from outside P Block down to N Block Service Area.
- Access road from CPA building to S Block via S Block Car Park 4 closed from both sides.
- Bus routes 70 and 72 will stop at UWE Bristol bus stops as normal but divert through Cheswick Village when leaving the campus.
Upgrades to District Heat Network (DHN) – various areas affected: June to September
The project will install hundreds of metres of pipework which will involve extensive trench work around campus. Some buildings, car parks and routes will be temporarily closed. There are four main areas where works will be most disruptive:
- B and S Block
- Q and R Block
- E, G and N Block
- Wallscourt Park 1
S Block closure: Friday 14 June to Friday 23 August
S Block will be closed due to reduced emergency access around the building. Showers and lockers will not be available so please make sure you have emptied your locker by 17:00 on Friday 14 June.
Internal Library works and C Block refurbishment: June to end of August
The Library and Careers Service and Helpdesk will be open at all times during this period. We're increasing the number of student study spaces on the second and third floors and space on the fourth floor will become an open communal seating area.
Octagon building demolition and landscaping: June to end of August
The Octagon building is being demolished which will cause noise disruption. The programme of works avoids exam dates and resit dates. Demolition works will require closing access routes into E and D block, Library and Onezone from behind the Octagon. Car Park 8 will also be fenced off.
You can still access E and D block, Library and Onezone through the undercroft. Level access and lifts are available. Fire exit routes will be via D and E block and clearly signposted.
Centre for Performing Arts (CPA) building demolition: June to end of August
The old Centre for Performing Arts buildings on the edge of the campus are being demolished. The Centre for Music has now moved to the Farmhouse.
