Accessing natural history collections
Evaluating how schools access the UK's geological heritage.
Earth heritage helps us to understand the natural world and geological collections are an important part of this. The Geological Curators Group (GCG), a Subject Specialist Network affiliated to the Geological Society of London, maintains a database that records geological collections held in museums across the United Kingdom and beyond. Learning about Earth Sciences features throughout the curriculum, however more research is needed into the availability of such collections to schools.
This project will review details of museums within the GCG database and publicly accessible information to explore the current availability of UK geological museum collections, and related educational provision, to schools.
The project is led by Dr Laura Hobbs in collaboration with the University of Bristol and the Geological Curators Group.
