Early Career Researcher Training: Western Balkans
The Science Communication Unit (SCU), working in partnership with ThinkWrite, is developing a training programme for early career researchers in the Western Balkans region. This programme is aimed at participants from a wide range of research disciplines, including humanities, social science and natural sciences.
The programme introduces participants to public engagement practice, including the history of public engagement with research, public engagement and ethics, working with audiences, as well as a range of practical skills, including writing for popular media, podcasting, live lectures, visual communication and social media. The course draws on the extensive experience of SCU staff as teachers and trainers of science communication and builds in examples from our research.
The training programme aims to enhance the skills of early career researchers in public engagement, with a view to improving the public discourse relating to their research areas. Around 120 researchers are participating in the programme which is funded by the British Council as part of their Science Engagement Programme underway in this region.
The project is led by Dr Emma Weitkamp.
