Simulation and modelling of crossing-shock-wave and turbulent boundary-layer interactions
In this project, we are going to revisit and further extend our previous research in SBLI .
First, we would continue the 2D work by additional parametric study as part of PhD learning/training process.
Second, we would extend the 3D work by including the sharp wedge geometry, rather than introducing the shock jump relation theoretically. This will be the case similar to single sharp fin on a flat plate. We would adopt the flow condition as defined in reference paper, thus a proper DNS study would be feasible on a recently developed HPC cluster at Kingston University. At meantime, national supercomputer resource will be available via UKTC for which Dr Yao is a member.
Third, we would tackle more challenging flow of double-sharp-fins on a flat plate with turbulent boundary layer at inflow and relative high Reynolds number. DNS study of this flow will demand huge amount computing resources, thus we will consider LES approach that permits high-Re at reasonable cost. Some preliminary study of double fins geometry flow has been carried out by RANS modelling and similar practices will be carried out throughout the programme.
Duration: 2009-2013
