Project summary
Although traffic management is abundantly referred to in literature and governed by industry guidance, there is limited effort to include the needs of all road users in the design of inclusive traffic management solutions or how to improve the social impact of design decisions.
This project aims to determine how to improve temporary traffic management practices to ensure that
- vulnerable road users can use the highway
- that they are provided with acceptable levels of service.
Focused interviews will be held between with key stakeholders from the local authority highways teams and Colas professionals delivering temporary traffic management design and services. Findings from the interviews will feed into focus groups made up of vulnerable road users and community groups, schools, businesses and sports groups to ensure a diverse range of stakeholders are included. Given the particular social value focus of the study, we are keen to include social groups for older or disabled people or local organisations representing them.
