Business leaders with aspirations to become board members are being given the opportunity to hone their skills and learn what makes an effective board member at an interactive workshop taking place at UWE Bristol’s Business School.

Board Talk: Insights into Action, on 23 January 2025 from 18:00-20:00, is being facilitated by Kathryn Bishop and Gillian Camm who between them have 60 years of board-level experience across multiple sectors and were finalists in the Business Book Awards 2024 for their book ‘Board Talk: 18 crucial conversations that count inside and outside the boardroom’. The event is for professionals who currently sit on boards and those who aspire to do so in the future.

The workshop will look at the ingredients for a well-functioning board in any organisation – private, public or voluntary. Delegates will examine what kind of board their organisation needs, using research and real examples to explore the essential strategies needed to guide effective decision making in the boardroom. The workshop will offer actionable insights to elevate the leadership impact of delegates.

Kathryn and Gillian will bring a wealth of board-level experience across listed and private companies, charities, government boards, professional services firms, and educational establishments. Their book ‘Board Talk’ tackles the most critical challenges facing board directors, offering practical guidance on understanding organisational dynamics, overcoming information barriers, and driving strategic success.

UWE Bristol’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Steve West will deliver a welcome address at the event, setting the stage for the interactive workshop and networking. To sign up to the Board Talk event which costs £6 to attend, visit: uwe.ac.uk/events/board-talk
