Career support throughout your degree

From the moment our students start, they get careers information and advice - from employers, our careers team, and their tutors. So by the time they graduate, they will be equipped with the experience, contacts and skills to succeed in their chosen careers.

Placements and work experience

As well as placements, our students gain experience on live projects, commissions and competitions. There are plenty more opportunities to get experience through volunteering, part-time work and paid internships. Whatever path our students choose, the careers service can find experience that fits their brief.

We encourage students to take part in industry competitions. Students have gained national and international recognition through these. We also arrange specific UWE Bristol awards and bursaries including:

  • Gane Trust Travel Bursary giving a second year student £1,000 to carry out a research project of their choice, providing them with the opportunity to travel, gather materials, undertake workshops and make contacts.

The Creative Industries departments arrange an annual Professional Practice Week. With over 60 events offered, it's the perfect opportunity to network and learn about the sector. There are panels and presentations with top employers, industry professionals and alumni.

Our annual degree show offers employers the opportunity for talent scouting and students the opportunity to market themselves to industry. As well as showing them work, students can schedule a one-to-one to talk about graduate careers.

Starting up a business

Many of our graduates go freelance and become self-employed. So we give them a head start while they're here. Enterprise skills are built into the curriculum, and students can bring business ideas to life by accessing private sessions and funding by working with our enterprise advisers.

Specialist careers support

Sector-specific careers advice is available for each department and one-to-ones are available with our dedicated team. Students can attend weekly careers drop-ins to find out more about creative careers. They can build their skills through workshops on LinkedIn, presentation skills and pitching etc. And it doesn't end when they graduate. Our careers services are available to alumni up until three years after graduation.
