Bristol Ageing Better (BAB)
Reducing social isolation and loneliness among older people in the city.
Bristol Ageing Better (BAB) is a partnership working to reduce social isolation and loneliness among older people in the city and help them live fulfilling lives. Funded by the National Lottery, BAB sits within a larger network of projects across the UK and has been in operation since 2015. One of BAB’s strands of work focused on food and nutrition, funding community projects that use food as a medium to bring older people together.
Sophie Laggan of the Science Communication Unit led on the evaluation of this strand, taking an action research approach to situate herself within the communities, cooking food and sharing stories about older peoples’ lives today, and their experiences of community-based social eating.
Read her findings in the evaluation report (PDF), written with the support of Amy Beardmore and Dr Mat Jones.
