Research in the School of Architecture and Environment
The School of Architecture and Environment has an extensive programme of research and consultancy combining academic excellence and policy relevance, for which it has a well-established national and international reputation.
Our research activity focuses on strategically important and timely architectural, environmental, resource, transport and societal issues. Reflecting its global prominence, the School of Architecture and Environment hosts a number of research centres and groups. Staff from this School also collaborate with other research centres and groups based in other schools and colleges within the UWE Bristol community.
We have a strong track record of securing project funding from bodies which include the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the European Union. We also work with a wide range of clients in the private, public and voluntary sectors.

Widely recognised by air quality and carbon management practitioners, nationally and internationally, as a leading provider of information, advice, research and consultancy.
Centre for Architecture and Built Environment Research
Developing innovative approaches, technologies and techniques that support the design, management, reconfiguration, maintenance and operation of buildings and their environments.
Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environments
The Centre for Sustainable Planning and Environments (SPE) aims to develop understanding of how to achieve places that are environmentally sustainable, socially just and economically competitive.
Centre for Transport and Society
Our aim is to improve and promote understanding of the inherent links between lifestyles and personal travel in the context of continuing social and technological change.
Centre for Water, Communities and Resilience
The Centre for Water, Communities and Resilience (CWCR) brings together established inter-disciplinary teams working on different national and international water security initiatives at UWE Bristol.
WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Urban Environments
Promoting sustainable settlements through research, teaching, consultancy, knowledge exchange and publications. We work closely with external organisations including the WHO European Healthy Cities network.
