Project summary
The development of the marine environment and human’s impact on it has been one of the key stories of the 21st century. The sustainable commercial exploitation of the oceans, whether it is from established operations such as fishing, or new uses such as offshore wind is one of the defining challenges of our generation. The project uses established commercial development practice on land to resolve the issues facing the ocean.
In the last year, the researches have investigated legal ownerships on the high seas in support of the draft UN Treaty on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction, given evidence in the UK Parliament over the mechanics of the draft Fisheries Bill and sought to normalise fishing in European waters through the application of European environmental law. The next year promises to be even busier.
