Immigration Advice Service
Help and advice on student visas for international students at UWE Bristol.
Support and guidance
Studying in the UK is a rewarding experience but student visas can seem complicated. If you need to extend your visa to complete your studies or you would like to chat about visa matters, you can get in touch by email or attend a drop-in. You can also sign up for webinars on a range of visa-related matters.
Support from an Immigration Adviser
The Immigration Advice team is available to advise and support international students who have questions about their visas or UKVI immigration rules.
You can attend our drop-in sessions at the Global Lounge (2P4, Frenchay Campus):
- Monday and Wednesday 13:30 to 14:45
- Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 to 12:00
Drop-in sessions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each session has limited availability. The Global Student Support team will triage your enquiry on arrival, and you may be offered an appointment. If you cannot be seen by an adviser on the day, you will have the option of attending the next drop-in session.
Appointments with an Immigration Adviser
Except in particularly serious or complicated cases, we are not presently offering student-bookable appointments. In the first instance, please contact us by email or drop-in so that we can gauge the nature of your enquiry. An adviser will book an appointment if the situation demands.
If you need to cancel
If you can't attend an appointment you can either cancel it via InfoHub or by contacting immigrationadvice@uwe.ac.uk.
You are welcome to arrange another appointment. However, missing three consecutive appointments without any prior notification could result in you not being permitted to book another one during the same month.
During your appointment
The Immigration Adviser will take some notes as a record of the meeting in accordance with our Data Protection Policy (PDF).
The Immigration Adviser will listen to your enquiry and provide appropriate information and advice. They may suggest a course of action which could involve signposting or referring you to another service within the University or an external organisation.
Set up your eVisa now
The UK Government is transitioning to electronic visas. If you have a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), you should create an eVisa account with UK Visas and Immigration now. This is particularly important if you plan to travel during the winter break.

Keep an eye on our schedule of upcoming visa and immigration webinars which cover topics such as:
- working during and after studies
- preparing for a student visa application
- general immigration advice question and answer sessions.
To view and book onto one of our webinars, please view upcoming events via the Infohub events.
Peak times
We aim to respond to your emails within 10 working days. However, due to the volume of student visa extensions and enquiries we process, it may take longer to respond to your emails. We appreciate your patience.
We encourage you to come to our drop-in sessions if your query is urgent.
